Low water pressure? How to tell if it's one faucet or the whole house
General home information from Prufloop. Updated October 28, 2026.
What you can safely check
- Unscrew and rinse the faucet aerator or showerhead. Soak it in vinegar to dissolve mineral buildup.
- Make sure the main shut-off and any valves near the water heater are fully open.
- Check with neighbors or your water utility for repairs in the area.
- Turn off every fixture and watch the water meter. If it moves, you may have a leak.
When to call a plumber
- Pressure is low throughout the house with no utility work going on
- The meter moves with everything off
- Pressure dropped suddenly
- Only hot water is weak
What a plumber will usually do
- Tests pressure at a hose bib with a gauge
- Adjusts or replaces the pressure-reducing valve
- Finds hidden leaks
- Checks for corroded galvanized pipe in older homes
Asking an AI assistant to book it
Once Prufloop launches (planned for Q4 2026 around Charlotte), you'll be able to ask the AI assistant you use something like this, and it can book a verified pro at a posted price in a real open slot. This is how it's planned to work; no assistant is connected yet.
Before a job is booked, you see the pro's posted price, including any trip or diagnostic fee. Anything extra needs your OK first. When the work is done, you confirm it's fixed with a quick text. That's Proof of Done™.
Questions
What is normal home water pressure?
Many homes run about 40 to 80 psi. A plumber can test yours with a gauge on an outdoor spigot.
Can low pressure mean a leak?
Yes. If the water meter moves when nothing is running, water is going somewhere, which can be a leak under the slab, in a wall or in the yard line.
Can my AI assistant book a plumber for this through Prufloop?
Not yet. Prufloop is being built so the AI assistant you already use can book a verified plumber at a posted price, starting with the Charlotte-area pilot planned for Q4 2026 in Mecklenburg, Union, Cabarrus, Iredell, Gaston and Lincoln counties in North Carolina, plus York and Lancaster counties in South Carolina. No AI assistant is connected yet.
