Clogged drain? What to try first and when it's a bigger problem

General home information from Prufloop. Updated October 28, 2026.

The short answer. A single slow drain is usually hair, soap or grease close to the fixture: try a plunger, a plastic drain snake, or removing and cleaning the stopper or trap. If several drains back up at once, or water comes up in a tub or floor drain when you flush, the main line is likely clogged. Stop using water and call a plumber.
Safety first. Avoid chemical drain cleaners. They can damage pipes and finishes, and they splash on whoever opens the drain next.

Asking an AI assistant to book it

Once Prufloop launches (planned for Q4 2026 around Charlotte), you'll be able to ask the AI assistant you use something like this, and it can book a verified pro at a posted price in a real open slot. This is how it's planned to work; no assistant is connected yet.

Example request. “Two of my drains are backing up and the tub gurgles when I flush. Book a licensed plumber in Rock Hill for a main line clog.”

Before a job is booked, you see the pro's posted price, including any trip or diagnostic fee. Anything extra needs your OK first. When the work is done, you confirm it's fixed with a quick text. That's Proof of Done™.

Questions

Is it OK to pour boiling water down the drain?

Not into porcelain sinks or PVC pipes; it can crack them. Hot tap water is safer.

Why do my drains clog so often?

Grease, wipes and hair are the usual causes. Repeated main line clogs can mean tree roots or a sagging pipe, which a camera inspection can show.

Can my AI assistant book a plumber for this through Prufloop?

Not yet. Prufloop is being built so the AI assistant you already use can book a verified plumber at a posted price, starting with the Charlotte-area pilot planned for Q4 2026 in Mecklenburg, Union, Cabarrus, Iredell, Gaston and Lincoln counties in North Carolina, plus York and Lancaster counties in South Carolina. No AI assistant is connected yet.
